5 Easy and Delicious Homemade Vinaigrette Salad Dressings

By

Tired of buying salad dressing at the store?

Standing in front of the display of salad dressings at the grocery store, I have a hard time deciding which kinds to buy because many of them sound so delicious. I buy a couple of bottles and use them a few times, but then they end up just sitting on the shelf in my refrigerator until someone throws them away because they have begun to separate. My family eats a lot of salads but we just don't manage to use up all of the dressings that I buy in regular sized bottles besides a couple of our favorites. We enjoy having variety in our dressings, however it quickly adds up and then goes to waste.

I decided to start making my own salad dressings in small quantities so that I wouldn't be throwing my money away. I am so glad that I did! Not only am I saving money, but the quality and freshness of homemade dressings is so much better than store bought! I'd love to share 5 simple and delicious Vinaigrettes with you that will soon become your family's favorites.

Classic Vinaigrette

This dressing should be made just before serving overly freshly mixed greens. All of the ingredients are kitchen staples so it is not only delicious but not costly at all.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup extra virgin or virgin olive oil

4 tsp vinegar (white wine, red wine, or tarragon,) or you can even use lemon juice if you prefer

1/2 tsp salt

ground pepper to taste

Whisk all ingredients together until well blended then use immediately. Makes 1/4 cup.

Herb Vinaigrette

The fresh herbs used in this recipe will provide such a fantastically fresh taste that you will never get from using bottled store bought dressings. You should use this dressing immediately after preparing.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup extra virgin or virgin olive oil

4 tsp vinegar (white wine, red wine or tarragon) or if you prefer, fresh lemon juice

1 tbsp minced fresh herbs like tarragon, basil, chives or parsley

1/2 tsp salt

ground pepper to taste

Whisk all ingredients together until well blended. Use and enjoy immediately. Makes 1/4 cup.

Mustard Vinaigrette

This dressing is comparable to dressings served in high quality restaurants. Very tasty.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup extra virgin or virgin olive oil

4 tsp vinegar (white wine, red wine or tarragon) or if you prefer, fresh lemon juice

1 tsp Dijon mustard

1/2 tsp salt

ground pepper to taste

Whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl until well blended. Use immediately. Makes 1/4 cup.

Garlic Vinaigrette

If you love the taste of fresh garlic, then this is the dressing for you! Try making this vinaigrette with different vinegars or lemon juice for different flavors.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup extra virgin or virgin olive oil

4 tsp vinegar (white wine, red wine, tarragon) or lemon juice

1 clove blanched and chopped garlic or 1 clove pressed garlic

1/2 tsp salt

ground pepper to taste

Whisk together all of the ingredients until well blended. Use immediately. Makes 1/4 cup.

Balsamic Vinaigrette

For the greatest flavor, you should use the highest quality Balsamic vinegar and olive oil you can afford. It is tremendous!

Ingredients:

1/4 cup extra virgin or virgin olive oil

4 tsp balsamic vinegar

1 tbsp minced fresh basil

1/2 tsp salt

ground pepper to taste.

Whisk together all ingredients until well blended. Use immediately on salad or as a dipping oil for crusty bread. Makes 1/4 cup.

Thanks for sharing these awesome vinaigrette ideas. I have used Good Seasons Italian seasoning packets for many years - love the taste. Lately I have been experimenting a little more - you have some great suggestions here. I am writing a salad recipe hub and would like to link to this hub :)
