Do You Love Cowboys? Do You Love Reading Romance Novels??? Check Out My Review Of One Of The Top Romance Novelists!
78Diana Palmer
When I think of books about cowboys and romance, I immediately think of the author, Diana Palmer. Though I've never been on cattle ranches or anywhere in the mid-west, I can envision it perfectly when I'm reading her books. She puts just enough detail to form a photograph in your mind without carrying on for pages and pages of details that will make your eyes glaze over. The conflict is introduced immediately and you are thrust into the middle of the character's lives. That's what makes these novels so great- you get so involved right from the beginning that you will want to keep reading to see what happens next. I know that whenever I pick up one of her Western love stories, I will be rooting for the hero and heroine to reach their happily ever after within the first few pages. That's the thing with Palmer; she makes you care about the characters right off the bat.
The Hero
The men in her novels are always strong, rugged, rough around the edges and always the arrogant alpha male. Oh, and let's not forget: Irresistibly Sexy. A few chapters in, and you'll wonder, "how come there are no guys like him around here?" They are protective and would make anyone feel safe with them nearby. They will say things sometimes that will make you think, "Oh my God, what a jerk!" But, for some reason, they are likeable at the same time. There is always some dark secret brooding as the reason for their, at times unthinkable, actions. These cowboys are often times their own worst enemy having been brought on by some horrible incident from their past. You can't help but feel sorry for them and the torture that they put themselves through.
The Heroine
The women are so enraptured by their cowboy that the love that they have is something to be admired. Often times they are not strikingly beautiful, with super-model features, but rather are somewhat ordinary. They are however, stunningly attractive in the cowboy's eyes. They can sometimes be viewed as a bit weak, but there is no mistaking the female protagonist's desire to get what she wants, even if it means walking away from the very man that she loves. She'll show her true strength and convictions that will have you admiring her so much that you'll wish she lived next door to you. These women are so endearing that you'll be smiling broadly when she finally gets her cowboy.
The Villain
Palmer's villains, whether they are male or female, are so evil and mean that you absolutely love to hate them. You'll wonder how someone can be so conniving, dishonest and cold-hearted. They are able to dig their claws into the cowboy and are often the catalyst for a heated misunderstanding between the male and female protagonists. You'll want to scream when the hero is blind to what the heroine (and the reader) can so plainly see.
Her novels have charm that will not lessen over the years, and I often find myself re-reading the many novels of Palmer that I own. While the formula often carries over- girl loves boy who seemingly wants nothing to do with her until she walks out of his life and he realizes he loves her a little bit to late and must win her back before she's gone forever- the plot and well paced events are intriguing in each book. There is plenty of sexual tension between the two characters, and Palmer does this with class and sizzle at the same time. It is subdued and tastefully done, with scenes you don't have to worry about someone reading over your shoulder. I've read countless Diana Palmer novels, and her cowboy romances are without a doubt my all-time favorites. She allows me to visit a place so different then my Northeastern urban lifestyle without actually having to hop on a plane and travel 2,000 miles to the middle of the country.
Pick up some of her books today, and I promise that if you are looking for a real page-turner, cowboy romance, you won't be disappointed.
